Seattle is one of my favorite places to eat, drink, catch a game, and shop. I went to the University of British Columbia and had many friends just south of the border. Vancouver and Portland offer that West-Coast hipster vibe, but Seattle is that monkey in the middle I can’t seem to shake. Whether you’re into the underground music scene or all about live sports, here are some great places to stay on your trip.
For a Quick Trip…
If you’re just coming into the city on a brief trip and need to catch some zzz’s before a flight, the Seattle Airport Marriott is a tried-and-true option. Beyond being close to SEA-TAC, it’s also really close to local attractions. Fewer than 16 miles from the hotel, you can find the Pike Place Market, the Space Needle, and the Silver Dollar Casino. For about $203/night, the hotel is designed for rest and relaxation. Comfortable rooms, a 24-hour fitness centre, and an indoor pool are just some of the reasons why on a quick trip you may end up just chilling at the hotel. Got an extra $11? For about $214/night you can up the ante and stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton Seattle Airport. A little more social, the DoubleTree by Hilton welcomes you with freshly baked chocolate-chip cookies and encourages socializing in the charming hotel bar and lounge area. Even if you’re not leaving on an early flight, it might be worthwhile to hang out by the airport!
Fido Friendly…
Traveling with your pooch has never been easier, thanks to pet-friendly hotels like DoubleTree by Hilton Spokane City Center. At only about $132/night, this budget-friendly option boasts free Wi-Fi, an outdoor pool, and a fitness center. Seek out the beauty of the nearby Spokane Riverfront, and indulge in the best food the city has to offer. Since the hotel is in River Park Square, you’ll be close to great shopping and entertainment. The hotel even has a skybridge to the Spokane Convention Center. For quality and convenience in Spokane, this is my pick.
For Something Completely Different…
Thrill-seekers will enjoy their time at Skamania Lodge in Stevenson, WA. Reasonably priced at about $189/night, the grounds are an adventure traveler’s dream. Guests can enjoy zip-lining, hiking trails, swimming, tennis, basketball, and volleyball on site. They can also recuperate with the many spa services at the Waterleaf Spa on site. Right now, I’m eyeing the geocatching, spelunking, paddle-boarding, and whitewater rafting nearby!
Why not wine? Cave B Inn – Estate Winery and Resort offers everything from a yurt to a suite with a two-person Jacuzzi. While there are budget options (the Hipmunk option starts at $189/night), you could go all out. up to about $2,099, depending on the season! For an upscale experience with a boutique winery, spa services, aerobics, meditation, and nearby rock climbing and golf, Cave B Inn will be an experience you won’t soon forget!
